One record, three jobs

Fleet compliance: the check, the defect and the record of both

An inspector will ask for the driver vehicle inspection reports on one truck for the last three months, and the answer will either be a screen or a shrug.

the person keeping a US fleet of five to two hundred vehicles legal: an owner, a safety director, an operations manager, sometimes the dispatcher who inherited it

not a fleet manager shopping for GPS trackers or dash cams, not a maintenance planner buying a CMMS, and not a driver looking up an engine fault code

Check the vehicle, raise the defect, prove the repair

  1. Every check is a record with a vehicle, a driver and a date on it

A pre-trip that exists only as a signature on a pad in the cab is a check nobody can produce three months later. Here it is a row, attached to the vehicle it was run on and the driver who ran it, the moment it is finished.

  2. A defect goes somewhere, and the record says where

The failure mode is not the driver missing a fault, it is the fault being written down and never reaching the workshop. Each defect carries who raised it, when, who it went to, and whether the vehicle was taken out of service in the meantime.

  3. The repair is certified or it visibly is not

The record an inspector actually wants is the certification that the defect was repaired and that the driver reviewed it. Open defects with no sign-off are counted on the dashboard rather than buried, because that number is the one nobody can answer for.

Should you buy a fleet management platform instead?

If what you need is vehicle tracking, fuel cards, an ELD for hours of service, route optimisation and maintenance planning in one system, buy a fleet management platform and stop reading: we do none of those and we are not going to. Walkvo is for the fleet whose actual problem is that the inspection reports are on paper in the cab and nobody can say which defects are still open.

Walkvo A fleet management platform
What it is for Keeping the inspection record: every check, every defect, the repair sign-off and the next due date Tracking, fuel, hours of service, routing and maintenance planning across the whole operation
What it needs from you Nothing on the vehicle; the driver uses a phone browser Hardware in every cab, installed and maintained
What it does not do No ELD, no telematics, no dash cams, no maintenance planning, no advice on which rules reach you Usually everything, which is why it is bought and configured as a project
How it is bought $10 a month for the whole fleet, cancel in one click, the checklist is free with no account A per-vehicle contract with hardware and installation, priced on request

No competitor price is quoted on this page and none is implied. Platform pricing in this category is per vehicle and quoted on request rather than published, so there is no figure we could source, and a made-up one would be worse than none.

The checklist a fleet's inspection program is sized from

This site is for the person who has to produce them. The free checklist sizes what your daily checks actually cost and how far behind your open defects are; the paid plan keeps the record afterwards, one line per check, one line per defect and the date somebody signed it off.

The checklist is yours. Walkvo Pro keeps the reports it sized.

The worksheet tells you the shape of the round. Pro holds the round itself: one record per check, one per defect, and a repair sign-off that either exists or visibly does not.

  • Keep the file on your own disk as well as ours
  • No Walkvo mark on a report that leaves your yard
  • Come back to a half-finished check instead of starting it again
  • Your company name and USDOT number on every printed report
  • The defect goes to whoever books the repair
